The Offerton local centre was at one time considered a ‘basket case’ and a prime example of urban decay and almost dereliction. But working hand in hand with the Local Authority and utilising the Council’s Compulsory Purchase powers, Cottrell Commercial delivered what many considered to be impossible – a wholesale redevelopment and new store opening for retailer Aldi.
Commenting on the project, Eddy Cottrell mused ‘Regeneration projects like this take a long time to deliver and need perseverance, hard work and occasionally a little bit of luck. Without the Council’s CPO powers this scheme could not have happened and I dread to think what the centre would have looked liked today. CPO is only part of the story however, and good design, market knowledge and Client commitment were all factors in the delivery of this project’.
