February 18th will herald the opening of a new retail development in the heart of Poynton town centre. Aldi will open its doors to the good folk of Poynton and shortly thereafter Cottrell Commercial will be announcing 4 new national retailers who will commence trading alongside.
The development (pictured close to completion), will doubtless become a major focus for shopping in the town, but not many will know the journey this development has meandered since initial plans were drawn up with rival retailer Tesco some 8 years ago !!
Throughout that time Cottrell Commercial worked alongside the land owner whose family originally occupied the site for their petrol station and motor dealership businesses. Various plans where formulated, and in early 2014 a public exhibition of the new plans for the site gained unanimous support of the local council. A complex land deal ensued which retained a new row of shops for our Client’s future benefit.
Commenting on the deal, the original owner of the site said ‘throughout the long period of time it took to achieve a favourable planning permission, Eddy never showed anything less than 100% commitment and professionalism to achieve a fantastic outcome for all concerned’.
